A FRANK VIEW ABOUT BOLOGNA AIRPORT (but not talking Sinatra)
Ok Bologna airport is one of those airports you either love or hate, it’s not the worst airport in Italy but it's definitely not the best.
Trying to find your way around the airport can be difficult at times as poor signage around the airport shows little clear direction.
Not many of the airport staff speak English but head towards the information desk if you do need to speak to anyone.
Check-in is down a level within the terminal building and can get quite congested if only a few airlines are checking in.
There is a very good supermarket near check-in whose prices seem very good for an airport as there are good deals to be had.
When you are checked in you pass through security control, again this can get busy but the staff are friendly enough.
Some good shops in the departure lounge but seating can be limited so be warned.
Toilet facilities can be somewhat dire so be aware!
There are only a few bars that can form long queues so if you are in the lounge for a while it makes sense to double your requests.
Some good retail outlets to browse through. One surprising thing about the departure lounge is again the seating or the lack of it, many passengers seem to just flop on the floor!
Landing at Bologna airport is very good, good ground transportation and if your lucky enough to be assigned an air-bridge even better.
Customs is just a short walk from entering the terminal and you can pass through quite quickly.
When you arrive at the baggage reclaim area you are greeted with five baggage carousels. Depending on how many aircraft have landed you could get your luggage fairly quickly.
All in all, it's not a bad experience arriving at Bologna airport.
